Fire Safety Tips & Messages

To the Residents of Lacey Township who have a fire alarm monitoring service, the three (3) Fire Companies request that you notify your alarm service that the Ocean County Sheriff's Department is the primary dispatch center for fire protection in Lacey Township.  Their phone number is 1-732-349-9100.

Remember 911 is a valuable tool during an emergency please do not hesitate to use it. Never call from inside a burning house. Exit the house then call!!

Only you can prevent wild fires. Please do not discard lit items from your vehicle while driving.

Safety First! Know two (2) ways out of your home.

Practice E.D.I.T.H.

  • E = Exit
  • D = Drills
  • I = IN
  • T = The
  • H = Home

Always have a Meeting Place outside the home.

Once your out of the house STAY OUT!

Always sleep with your bedroom door closed.

If you are trapped in your room put a towel or blanket against the bottom of the door and place a blanket or some other piece of clothing visibly out the window. Make a lot of noise so we know that we need to rescue you.

If your clothing catches on fire, remember to stop, drop and roll. While rolling cover your face.

Parents remember when cooking on the stove always have your pot handles turned inward so that a child can not grab them.

Never bury an extension cord under carpeting, the insulation could wear-off causing a fire.

Before winter arrives have your Chimney cleaned, most chimney fires happen when a chimney has not been cleaned.

Parents keep all Matches, Lighters and other flammable products away from children.

Smoke Detectors and Carbon Monoxide Detectors should be replaced every 10 years.

Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector batteries should be replaced every six months. The best time to do this is when we set our clocks back in the fall and ahead in the spring.

Remind children that they should never take the batteries out of a smoke detector, it could be a matter of life and death.

When a carbon monoxide alarm sounds please exit the house. do not open the windows, we can not tell if there is carbon monoxide present with the windows open.
